What’s New?

Summer weather has arrived  Heat and humidity are on the rise. Be sure to water your plants on a regular, consistent basis. A thorough deep soaking once or twice a week is recommended for landscape beds. Daily water is needed for pots and hanging baskets. The rise in humidity brings fungal disease. Watch for brown curling leaves. Safe fungicides are available for plants like roses, lilacs, tall phlox, bee balm, zinnias, dogwoods and peppers. Try to water early in the day so your plants go to bed with dry foliage. If you haven’t done so yet, it’s time to fertilize. Flower power is dependent upon food. Any all purpose fertilizer complete with micronutrients will do. We prefer Espoma’s organic fertilizer once the weather heats up. It’s organic and will not burn your plants if applied incorrectly.

We’ve a huge selection of reblooming shrubs like azaleas, rhododendron, lilac, weigela, hydrangea and dwarf butterfly bush. Native plants like butterfly weed, spicebush, pecan, serviceberry, fringe tree and the mighty oak are ready. Planting native varieties benefits songbirds, bees, butterflies and all the other pollinators that are responsible for so much of our produce. Check this out!
Call or e-mail us if you’re looking for a particular plant or new variety. We work hard at having the good new stuff, but only if it’s right for our hardiness zone. We here at Effingers pride ourselves on exceptional customer service and quality plant material at affordable, competitive prices.
